Hi all,
one feature I dearly miss in OOo Writer is the ability to find and
replace the paragraph end character (Alt+0182 on the keypad in DOS
ASCII as far as I can remember, or U+00B6 in the special character
offered in OOo-Writer's search & replace).
In M$Word 97 & others I can search and replace for example the paragraph
end character together with the following few characters. How can I do
this in OOo Writer? Adding the special character from a right-click in
the "Find & Replace" dialogue box's "Search for" field results in a
"Search key not found" response.
:-)

Trivial.
In the Search and Replace dialogue, select More Options and then select
Regular Expressions. Now, in the Search box enter a single dollar sign
("$"); this represents "end of paragraph". In the replace box, enter the
text you want *followed by* the two characters "\n" (backslash,
lower-case n). This represents "new paragraph". Choose Replace (or
Replace All) and you are done.
If you want to delete a paragraph mark, enter the "$" in the Search box
and nothing at all in the Replace box. Or, if you want to join two
paragraph but with "xxx" between the end of the first and the start of
the second, put the $ in the Search box and just "xxx" in the Replace box.
You need to read up about Regular Expressions to get the fullest use of
OO's Find and Replace capabilities which are much more powerful than
those in MS Office or DOS. And you don't need to learn Hex codes. What
you do end up learning is far more generally useful.
