You may want to look into Linux. There are many Linux distributions available, to suit a wide variety of users. You'll find Linux is far more stable and reliable than Windows, runs well on less powerful hardware and there has yet to be a viable Linux virus. There are many more reasons to consider Linux. I run SUSE Linux and Ubuntu is also popular, among others. If there's a Linux users group near you, you can problably find a few opinions about which distribution is "best".
