I haven't used SCIM. [I've been on Windows --- something that will
change this weekend.]

I do _not_ recommend using the IMEs from Microsoft. [For starters,
they are getting much picker about which programs they will work
with.]

The only IME for CJK that I liked was the one from NJStar.
I haven't found a Vietnamese IME for Windows that I liked. :(
[This is not for Vietnamese that uses the Latin writing system.]

The only Indic IME for windows that I almost liked is no longer available. :(

I have been tempted to create lists of words in various
languages/writing systems, and use the autocorrect feature to put the
glyphs in the correct order. [Type the word in kata kana, and have it
displayed in Kanji, or mixed Kanjji & Katakana. Type the word in
Sanskrit, and have the vowels automatically split correctly.]

Could you point me to that location? Maybe the community could help
improve this document and put it in the How-To page on OpenOffice.org?

You can find it at http://oooauthors.org/en/members/tutorials/multilingualooo/ .
Until about a week ago I thought it had been deleted from there ---
mainly because searching for it on OOoAuthors does not produce any
hits for it.[I found the URL on OOoForums.]

OOo can not correct for incompetence in creating documents from MSO.
Furthermore,OOo can not compensate for the defective and flawed
security measures used by Microsoft. As such, before using this product
for exams that require faulty and defective software, ensure that you
will not be unjustly penalized for the incompetence of the organization
that requires the use of software that is known to be flawed,
defective, bug-ridden, and fails to meet ISO file format standards.
