I mean Search and Replace.
So you are saying there is no way for S&R to find soft hyphen (Ctrl+-)?
Not good. 

Mybe RegEx?

Do you mean with Search & Replace or visually with your eyes? On ny
system they are always shown and they show up as a - with a gray
background. When you say soft hyphen, you mean the Ctrl+Space character,
right?

The help suggested that you can turn the "view user defined hyphens"
option off or on if you like:
Tools -> Options... -> OpenOffice.orgWriter -> Formatting help -> User
defined hyphens.
I have Swedish version, so some steps may not be named exactly like
that.

I couldn't find a way to find the soft hyphen with Search & Replace
though.
