The so-called "recovery" system is at least just as likely to lose data as
salvage it.  Don't even use it.

If you have automatic backup enabled, there will be a backup copy. 
Otherwise you will need "undelete" software to find and, hopefully, revive
older versions of your work.

You will probably need to plead computer mishap and seek an extension of
time.  Save your work frequently, backup as often as you think prudent and
don't use crash "recovery".
