I am trying to use 2.1 for Mac OSX. I have installed and reinstalled X11 from the Tiger disk 3 times, and every time I try to start Oo, I get the message X11 must be installed. X11 IS installed, and is in the dock, with all settings as listed in the .pdf trouble shooting file I got off the Oo website. I have tried to open it both with X11 open and closed, and either way, Oo does not recognize X11 is installed. i am very into the idea of Oo--please help me make it work! ty, rob
Hello Rob You don't say whether you have a PowerPC Mac or an Intel Mac. There is a different version of OpenOffice.org for either. There are 2 versions of X11, one for users (X11User.pkg on your install dvd), the other for developers (X11sdk.pkg). Maybe you installed the latter (I don't know what it looks like, since I didn't install it myself). When (User-) X11 is installed, it should be located in the Utilities folder under Applications (Applications>Utilities). When you doubleclick on it, you should get a small window in the top left corner of your screen, X11's Terminal, with a prompt (probably the name of your computer). You can type here: X -version <enter> and X11 will reply something like: XFree86 Version 4.4.0 / X Window System (protocol Version 11, revision 0, vendor release 6600) Alternatively: When you click on X11 on the Apple menubar, then on About X11, a small screen should come up stating: The X Windowing System (or something alike, I have it in Dutch), X11 1.1.3 - XFree86 4.4.0 If all this is OK... I don't know what's going wrong. Try this out and come back to the list with your finding (or error messages...) Good luck!! -- Guy using dutch OOo 2.2 RC 3 on a iMac Intel DualCore Tiger and dutch OOo 2.2 RC 3 on a G4 PPC Powerbook Tiger -- please reply only to [email protected] -- Dodoes can't afford to have headaches
