To perform arithmetic, you must tell Calc that you wish to perform
arithmetic.
You do this with the equals sign. Instead of just entering 6+5 try =6+5 and
that will make it do what you are asking. Generally, the equal sign
will be the
very first character that you enter. Otherwise, Calc thinks you want the
string of characters: a six, a plus sign, and a six.

I'm using the calc program to do a simple spreadsheet and I can't get
it to add numbers. I've tried 6+5 and hitting enter and it doesn't
work, as my interpretation of the help instructions indicated it
would. What am I doing incorrectly? Thanks.
