See: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=POSTNET+barcode http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/5027 http://www.usps.com/ncsc/addressservices/certprograms/barcode.htm Basically it's used for the USPS automated mail sorters. MS Word has had a feature as far back as Word 97 that allows you to add the POSTNET Barcode with a single click in their envelope wizard. The OOo solution is a kludge and not very effective one at that; even the macro document that Joe kindly provided has limitations: 1) must have a 3rd party unknown source ttf font, 2) doesn't automatically update the bar cdde when the envelope postal code is changed, etc., etc. I agree with the OP that OOo needs to address this and the generic issue of envelope printing overall. I am surprised that OOo (and Staroffice 8) have not addressed this issue. You can find posts as far back as 2003 related to this (I didn't bother searching older posts): http://www.openoffice.org/servlets/ReadMsg?listName=discuss&msgNo=22606 http://www.openoffice.org/servlets/ReadMsg?listName=users&msgNo=114872 http://www.openoffice.org/servlets/ReadMsg?listName=users&msgNo=95738 http://www.openoffice.org/servlets/ReadMsg?list=users&msgNo=95744 http://www.openoffice.org/servlets/ReadMsg?list=users&msgNo=124300 Last 3 URL's pretty much sums up the situation... > > On 23 Mar 2007, at 00:47, Jonathon Blake wrote: > >> Tom wrote: >> >>> PS i take it that bar code is a type of envelope in some countries? >> >> It is used by the United States Postal Service to sort mail.
