Instead of CD-R there are other writable media. I would not recommend
CD-RW either, for the reason given for floppy disks.

I would recommend one or two flash-drives, also called flash-sticks,
USB-sticks, and memory sticks. They are read-writable and many now come
with a lifetime warranty. Save the CD-Rs for backups of finished works,
which you should also print out.
