I would like to thank Harold and all for replying. From what I've read, it seems that Base requires a level of expertise that I don't have and for me to acquire that expertise could be an exercise in mental anguish. I'm using Calc to do median calcuatlions on my data, but it's a littled tedious and I thought a database would solve this. I've used the database in Microsoft Works, and even if this program is the humblest of the humble databases, it was FANTASTICALLY easy to use and set up and did everything I needed EXECPT calcuate the median! Maybe the next release of Base will be more user friendly (if that's the right way to put).
