     What do you mean by you can't open your original OOo documents? 
Do you mean that you double click the document but OOo does not open 
it? Try opening OOo first. Then use File > Open to select the 
document. Will it open then? If this is the case, you need to change 
your file associations.
     Since you seem to be using Kmail, it appears you are using Linux. 
Use Konquer to browse to your documents. Right click one of these 
documents and select Open With. Select OOo (or one of its 
applications) as the program to open the document. Check the box at 
the bottom labeled Remember application association for this type of 
file. Then click OK.
     Just out of curiosity, what version of OOo were you using before 
you updated to 2.2? If it is prior to 2.0.0, there has been a change 
in the format from the 1.1.x versions and the 2.x versions. It is a 
modification rather than a complete change in format. However, the 
three letter suffixes have changed, so that may explain the problem. 
(e.g., .sxw has changed to .odt)
