I am using version OOo_2.2.0 and my computer is Windows XP. Iwould like to
know if I can remove all but but the OOo Writer. I have no need for the
other programs and find they take a great deal of space on my computer. When
I first used Writer it was from a CD and I was given the option to load only
the program(s) I wished to use. As I am a writer and in no need of any other
availabilities I requested Writer. When I upgraded (downloaded) to the next
edition of OOo I was not aware of any choice offered so went along with the
download. I have now downloaded OOo 2.2.0 and now not only have all the
programs installed but, it seems from the amount of space taken, that I have
still got OOo 2.1.0 on my computer. Both are visible on my Desktop, and I
would like to remove the older version. Can I do so, and can I remove the
programs I do not use?

Thank you for your consideration - sincerely G. Wales

First downloads. You cannot just download one portion of OOo (eg,
writer). It has to be downloaded as a full office suite.

As you already have found you _can_ install just a single component.
When installing there should be an option (when doing a custom
install) to select just the writer component. This is not recommended
since the space savings are not that great (due to integrated office
suite reasons) and there could be other things that do not work.

I also do not believe that you can 'uninstall' a component once you
have installed it. You would have to re-install and select just the
component.

Huh ?? Defender doesn't stop spyware (Webroot) ; firewall is only 50%
effective (Zdnet) ; UAC can be turned off and is annoying ; SP1 (incl
security reasons) due end of 2007...
