Backgrounds are one of the many styles contained in a Slide
Master (aka, Master Slide or Master Page). It serves the same purpose
as a page style does for Writer. Every slide must have a slide
master. If you want two backgrounds, you must have two slide masters.
However, slide masters do not copy from one file to another in the
normal way. Instead, you have two choices: create a second slide
master to match background 2, or load background 2 from a template
into file 1.
For the second choice, save file B as a template. (File >
Templates > Save) Copy the six slides from file B to file A. Use
View > Master > Slide Master to add the second slide master. To do
this, right click in the Slide pane below the slide. Select New
Master from the context menu. Right click the New Slide Master, and
select Slide Design from the context menu. Click the Load button
(bottom right), and select the template you saved. Click OK, and then
click OK again.
Then use View > Normal to get back to your slides. Make sure the
Task pane is open as well as the Master Page section of it. You
should see both backgrounds listed in the top part of the Master Page
section.
Go to the Slide pane. Click the first slide, and browse down to
the fourth slide. Hold the Shift key while clicking the fourth slide.
This should select all four slides. Right click background 1 in the
Master Page section, and select Apply to selected slides. (Be careful
to select this rather than the Apply to all slides.)
Now select slides five through 10. Right click background 2 in
the Master Page section, and again select Apply to selected slides.
It might help to look at the Master Page section of the Getting
Started with Impress chapter of the Getting Started Guide.
