Back when XP came out, MS promised it would load faster than Windows 2000 etc. However, all that happens is that you get to see the desktop sooner. It's still useless for a significant time, after logging in. As an experiment, compare boot times of a recent Linux distro with XP. Also, it was demonstrated in court that MS did and apparently still does engage in illegal tactics that put a competitor's product at a disadvantage.
