Gee, 1959! That is when I learned that one meter = 39.37 inches.
By the way, 0.0254*39.37 =.999998. And to four significant digits
that is "1". These numbers are reciprocals for all practical
purposes. On my calculator, the reciprocal for 39.37 is
0.0254000508001016002. That is very close to what you stated.
