Can I download and use Open Office to a "Vista" operating system?
Yes.

You should probably not consider getting Vista. Just consider using your
existing winders or switching to a Linux distribution.
There's a very interesting article on the upsurge in interest in Linux
as a result of the release of MS Windows Vista at
<http://aaxnet.com/editor/edit043.html>.
I am hearing a lot of unconfirmed rumors that your old printer and other
stuff will not work with Vista, as the manufacturers don't want the
expense of making new drivers for Vista. Also heard that MS is
pressuring some chip makers to design their chips so that They won't
work w/anything but Vista, so be careful about buying a new computer and
make sure that the chipset will work with XP or Linux.
I was contracted to do a dual boot installation of Vista with XP on
Dell's account executives laptops during their annual 4 day convention.
Hardly any of them wanted it installed, and won't until Dell makes it
mandatory. These guys are in the business, and if they don't want it,
you probably shouldn't either. Vista did not like installing on a laptop
with less that 2 GB of RAM. It was problematic getting it to install on
laptops that only had 1-1/2 GB RAM.
I use Linux and Windows. There is a dramatic improvement in Linux in
just the last 2 years. If you had a bad experience with it before, try
it again. It is getting near ready for prime time. Some distributions
work better than others. Its free, so if one does not suit you, try
another one.
