As to Mandriva, use Mandriva Control Center to uninstall the OOo
that came with the Mandriva CD's. Then use Konsole to open a terminal
window. Use
rpm -ivh *.rpm in the RPMS folder. This is what I have done on
Mandriva 8.0, 9.1, 10.0, 2006, and 2007.
