     For right now, only MS Office 2007 can work with .docx files. 
(Office 2003 can do it with a plug-in.) OOo is working on an input 
filter for the .docx format, but it is still in the development 
stage. In the meanwhile, as suggested by others, ask that any 
documents be sent to you in the .doc format rather than the .docx 
format.
