I am thinking of purchasing Open Office but write many Excel spradsheets
with Visual Basic Macros. Can I do this in Open Office?

You don't need to purchase OOo. You can download it free from
www.openoffice.org ...

OOo itself doesn't support, natively, VBA. It has its own scripting
language and can utilise many others (eg, python, ... )

I believe that some various linux distributions that offer OOo (eg
Novell) have some support for VBA within OOo. I also believe that star
office has some support for it as well. Have a look at this page for
more information :

Huh ?? Defender doesn't stop spyware (Webroot) ; firewall is only 50%
effective (Zdnet) ; UAC can be turned off and is annoying ; SP1 (incl
security reasons) due end of 2007...
