There is a convertor for MSWorks file available on Microsofts site. It will
convert Works files to .DOC files.
It's making a detour, but if it's a help to get these documents to OOo ->

(1) In Germany PCs 'for a good price' are often selled with
installed WinXP and MS Works as sole 'word processor'
(it's really a 'sell')
