2007/4/5, Julia Gaspar-Bates <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>:

Hello,

I recently started to use Open Office however I only want to use it for
certain documents that need to be converted into pdf format. Unfortunately
all of my Microsoft documents have converted into Open Office and this is
challenging for certain applications that I need to use. I would like to
reconvert my documents to Word, Excel or Powerpoint format. I have
followed
the directions in your FAQ section to change the association but
unfortunately this did not work and all my files are still in Open Office
format. Please advise how I can change this so the default documents will
appear in Microsoft Office with the option of transforming them to Open
Office on certain documents only.

Nothing was converted to anything unless you made it happen. The documents
doesn't convert themselves just because you install OpenOffice.org. Maybe
they are opened with OpenOffice.org when you double click them, but they are
still in the same MS format as they always been.
Try to open them from Word/Excel/Powerpoint by clicking File → Open… If the
file opens, then it's certainly not in OpenOffice.org format, because
Word/Excel/Powerpoint can not read the ISO/IEC 26300 (also known as the
international standard "OpenDocument") format that OpenOffice.org use.
So do as someone else already suggested (which I think is the easiest way):
Right click a Word document → Open with… → Select Microsoft Word → OK.
Then right click an Excel Document → Open with… → Select Microsoft Excel →
OK.
Also right click an Powerpoint Document → Open with… → Select Microsoft
Powerpoint → OK.
I am not sure that this also will change the icons of the documents. If it
does, it could take a few seconds before that happens, I think, so don't
panic.

Also, please let me know how I can uninstall Open Office as I could not find
this information.

To uninstall, run the OpenOffice.org installation program. There is an
uninstall option there, somewhere. You can also uninstall from Start →
Settings → Control panel → Add/delete programs.
