Hello sir, Why both apps Writer and Calc cannot recognize automatically what language I am writing now and use corresponding dictionary to check up my spelling? Should I do this setting manually all the time by clicking right button of mouse and set the language? How can I automate it like MS Word does?
I don't think you can automate that, unless someone wrote a macro for it or something like that. That would maybe be a rather slow solution. I have some workarounds, though: Let's say that I am typing a document in Swedish (you would probably be typing in Russian, right?) with OpenOffice.org Writer. Maybe I have to quote something in another language, let's say English, all of it (Swedish + English) may look like this: Och här kommer ett citat som jag inte kunde låta bli att ta med: "It's better to be rich and wealthy than to be poor and sick". (The Swedish sentence means: "And here is a quote that I couldn't resist to include:", just in case someone will accuse me to not write in English otherwise). Anyway, now I have two paragraphs, one in each language. One of them, in this case the English one, is marked as totally wrong spelled, since both paragraphs are set to Swedish. What i do now, is to right click one of the "wrong spelled" words, and select "Paragraph is English". I could also do this word by word, selecting "Word is English". So now that paragraph is set to English. Another workaround is the following: In this example we will first create two styles we want to use, let's call them "Eng" and "Rus". Of course we will use "Rus" when typing in Russian and "Eng" when typing in English. F11 will open the styles windows. Highlight a style that suits your needs, has the right font etc. Right click it → select New… → Click the Organizer tab if necessary → Enter Rus in the name field → Click the Font tab → Select Russian → OK. Create another one for English and call it Eng. Now, click Tools → Customize… → Keyboard → Click "Styles → Paragraph" at Category → Click the style Rus in the Function field → Look for a free key combination it the Shortcut keys field, highlight it → Click Modify. Do the same for the Eng style. Now, when writing a paragraph, just use the newly created shortcuts to quickly change the language setting of the current paragraph. You don't even have to highlight anything. The paragraph you are currently are typing is the one that's going to be changed. I know, it's not automatic, but maybe the second best option?
