Thanks Dan and CPH. I can now get documents to my Documents directory
but when I try to open them by double clicking I get the message that
they cannot be opened by Appleworks. I can open them from Recent
Documents in OpenOffice. Tom

Hello Tom

• To open just one file in OpenOffice.org, you can Apple-click (or
control-click, or right-click) on it and chose the second option in the
contextual menu: Open With. OpenOfice.org should be amongst the programs
proposed (otherwise chose Other, go to your Applications folder and
doubleclick OpenOffice.org 2.2 or whatever version you have installed)
• To change the default, i.e. to open a certain file type always with OOo,
highlight such a file, e.g. a *.doc, type Apple-i and you get a small info
pane. The 5th part is called Open with. Here you can indicate OOo 2.2 (or
whatever) and under this it says Always use this program to open docs of
this type Change All. That's it. (I must admit that I have a small problem
here: when I chose OOo 2.2 and click Change All, he changes the choice to...
OOo 2.1. Dunno why...).
You can repeat this procedure for all file types (xls, ppt,...)
