I notice from the strace that you have OOo installed in
/etc/openoffice.org2.2/
OOo should be in the /opt/openoffice.org2.2/

I recommend that you uninstall and reinstall using the following:

>From your OOo extraction directory:
cd RPMS
sudo alien -k -v *.rpm
 when finished
sudo dpkg -i *.deb
when finished if you've removed ubuntu-desktop
cd desktop-integration
sudo dpkg -i openoffice.org-debian-menus_2.2-9119_all.deb

That will install OOo 2.2 in the /opt/ directory.

if you've not removed ubuntu-desktop (you can keep the ubuntu-desktop
if you wish, you'll just need to edit the menus manually) skip the above
& inststead:
Right-click on Applications then select edit menus. Go to the Office
section and:
 Click on New Item
 Browse to /opt//opt/openoffice.org2.2/programs
 Select swriter
 Click on Icon
Name it OOo 2.2 Writer (or something you like)
 Browse to /usr/shar/icons/Human/scalable/apps
Select the icon for swriter (you can use others - above is an example)
Repeat for scalc etc.
When finished, close Menu Layout
 Bring up a terminal
 $ killall gnome-panel
That will refresh the menus.
Applications|Office| and your OOo 2.2 Writer etc should be available.

See if that works & takes care of the 100% CPU issue & crashes.
