Are you talking about the PDF file?

I did follow the instructions in it, but there really wasn't much to
follow...

Hello Steve

I quite gree with Tom that this seems to be a X11 problem
/Applications/OpenOffice.org\ 2.2.app/Contents/MacOS/program/soffice
no suitable windowing system found, exiting.
This message clearly states it doesn't find no suitable X11 = windowing system.

When you start up X11 (Applications > Tools or Auxiliaries -- I have
it in Dutch)
you can check its version (X11 > About X11)
This should be 1.1, and probably even better 1.1.3
If you have 1.0, can you check what version came with your Tiger (Mac
OS X 10.4.x) install disks? Insert the CD or DVD into your computer
and do a Spotlight search for X11User.pkg.
Maybe try to install the package anew and check the version. If it's
1.1, you can update from the Apple site. If it's 1.0 you'll have to
shop around to find an update (I have no immediate solution for this.
(beware of the fact that there are different versions of X11 for
Panther and for Tiger, and different versions of OOo for Intel and PPC
Mac!)
BTW do you have an Intel or a PPC Mac?

Feel welcome to come back to the list with your findings...
(and see if you can help the OOo Mac porting team in some way or
another to speed up the production of a X11-free OpenOffice.org for
the Mac... it'll be here soon, with your help sooner).
