Every so often someone posts here about losing their thesis or some
large document. If I recall correctly the loss seems to occur after
they've shut down their computer, turn it back on and they can't find
the document. I wonder if the Temporary files path
(Tools|Options|Openoffice.org|Paths|Temporary files| has anything to do
with this.
