You should try updating X11 to the latest version. When I type X -
version I get:
XFree86 Version 4.4.0 / X Window System
(protocol Version 11, revision 0, vendor release 6600
What version X11 do you have if you go to Apple -> About this mac ->
More info -> Software -> Applications -> X11?
The latest is 1.1.3
Is there anything telling in OpenOffice2.log?
(try searching for the file in spotlight)
There were specific problems with an earlier version of X11 giving
the symptoms you describe, so I would definitely recommend updating.

First time invocation prompted me about loading system and user
fonts. I
said yes both times.
But that's all I've got.
Any attempts to load OOo lead to...
1. OOo icon bouncing on the doc
2. X11 icon appears in the doc
3. Xterm appears
4. OOo icon disappears from the doc
5. That's it.
I followed the instructions about setting the X11 preferences to
millions of
colors, etc. Still, no dice.
Any suggestions?
