See in the menu Tools>Options>OOo>Accessibility if the option "Use automatic font color for screen display" is checked. If so, uncheck it.

Since yesterday (13.04.2007), OpenOffice.org 2.2 no longer permits me to display or alter font color. I have tried using the Character... command in the Format menu both before typing and after selecting typed text. The font color appears in the dialogue box, but nothing I can think to do alters the font color displayed in the document. One peculiarity of my installation: in the past I had installed OOo on my C:\ partition; now, for reasons of space, I have been running it (for at least a year) on my D:\ partition.
