What's about frames in a frame in a frame etc ... ?

(BTW - OOo isn't DTP; you may try OSS like Scribus)

Never thought of frames in frames, so I tried it, but it seems like the new
frame isn't any different because I was within another frame when it was
created. The frames are independent of each other, so when I move one of
them, the other one is not moved.

It will do as a workaround though.

I still think that if I could set columns in a paragraph style, it would
have been sooooo convenient and it would have made some things so easy to do
without a desktop publishing application. I can't even see that such an
enhancement would be very hard to implement, but then again, I am not a
developer...

Before looking for Scribus, I will see if this is possible to achieve with
OpenOffice.org Draw, but maybe it's not.

Thanks for hints.
