Well, it maybe depends what we mean by "compatible". Word documents can be read, edited and saved (not the new docx format yet though), but macros are isn't written in the same macro language (if it was, I guess Microsoft would want some money for that, and then I guess OpenOffice.org wouldn't be free - lot of guessings here), by the way and will therefor not run on the application on which it was not written. I don't really know if OpenOffice.org can use Word templates directly, but you can test this to find out:
Open the Word template and save is as an OpenOffice.org template (.ott) at your removable disk. Make the new template to be your default template. Does it work now? If it does, you can not use Word templates directly and you need to convert them first. If it still doesn't work, maybe you can not use a removable drive for templates, but... well, I think that shouldn't matter. Johnny Andersson 2007/4/17, Karen McEwan <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>:
Hi Johnny Thanks for your info. I will subscribe as you have suggested. Yes, I use Windows XP. The removable disk does always show as (E:\) The Template that I need to use is a 'Word' Template. I assumed that I would be able to use this as I thought that Open Office was compatible with 'Word'. The fields that I want to change are Names, addresses, etc and when I am at work I use F11 to tab between the fields. Hope you can help. Does this removable disk get the same drive letter (such as E:\ etc) every time? If not I guess that kind of problem could occur. It is possible to reserve a drive letter to a specific drive and I have done that on my system, so that my external USB HDD always appears at X:\, my ogg player at I:\ and my GPS navigator at N:\ and so on. I also assume you mean a Writer template rather than a Word template, since I don't think a Word template will work in Writer, but maybe I'm wrong there. About Word's F11 (which in OpenOffice.org is for opening the Styles window), since I don't have Word (anymore), I don't know what F11 did. What kind of fields? Do you mean fields such as date, page number, bookmarks and things like that? Johnny Andersson ------------------------------ No virus found in this incoming message. Checked by AVG Free Edition.
