Thank you much for your help! FYI - as it turns out (after much poking and prodding) I figured out what was causing this. When the document was created, tweaked etc. in Open Office it was fine. The problem occured when the dopcument was saved into word 97/2000/xp format. Once saved in this format, the text background turned black, and the text turned white. It could be reversed using page styles, but once saved would revert back to the wrong colors, even when ussing OO to view). The work I was doing required a copy of this document to be available in Word format (ick!)
Solution: The problem never presented itself if the document was saved in word 95 format, instead of word 97/2000/xp format. Go figure! Anyway, thanks to everyone who sent me suggestions!
