More likely a "why pay for a feature that nobody uses" thing.
I did stumble across a statement to the effect that "it is better to
verify the MD5 sum, than to pay attention to the Certification Authority
certificate" on microsoft.com one day. The rest of the article was about
trusted sources, and how to use MD5 sums.
