In my opinion, (for what it's worth) I'd rather have several different tools, each of which performs its duties well, than one tool that does everything in a mediocre manner. Which is to say, I'd rather have OOo stay as simple as possible, and use special-purpose tools for DTP, Database management, email, calendar and contact management, etc.

Write, Calc and Draw are the minimum for an office suite. Impress is a good addition. Base is a bit much, since it has little to share with the rest, nearly as I can tell. Beyond that, the applications are far to diverse to fall within the normal "Office Automation" spectrum. It would be nice if they would all use and ODF, but that will take time, I expect.

since we are talking about a MS and scribus equivalent, would it be
possible or is it in the works to have something like Publisher? i
have been seeing a lot of people asking for it on this list.

I presently use scribus (and for me i am not comfortable to use ooo
for page layout, especially for images and more complicated items like
books), but would love to see something like it built right into ooo.

maybe some one involved with the ooo planing would be able to help me
on this question.
