I know this is an incredibly dumb question, but . I've just
downloaded and unpacked OpenOffice 2.2. I'm probably looking right past
it, but I can't find the file to get it started. Where is the <EXE> or
equivalent file that I can shortcut to my desktop and start Open Office?

Although you haven't explicitly mentioned it I assume that after
unpacking the file it successfully installed. If so, and I see that
your on windows, you simple have to look under start > all programs >
...

Alternatively you can find the binaries under <installation
directory>\program . They are named sbase = start the base component
; swriter = start the writer component ; etc...

Huh ?? Defender doesn't stop spyware (Webroot) ; firewall is only 50%
effective (Zdnet) ; UAC can be turned off and is annoying ; SP1 (incl
security reasons) due end of 2007...
