Unfortunately The entire bundle has to be downloaded, however you can just
install the Writer module of the package by using the custom install rather
than the full/fast or express install. On the next screen you can tell it to
install only writer (make sure the other modules show a red X beside them)

You could order the CD if you want to use the latest version now
(unless you have a friend with a broadband connection that you can use to
download OO [you can give him a copy of OO for the trouble])
or many computer magazines have the previous version (OO 2.1) on their
cover discs.

I am using version 2.0. My problem is that it doesn't handle .rtf
files properly. It is the only word processor I've ever seen that
doesn't, and I've used about a dozen. I remember when .rtf came
out during the reign of the 486. It works with pre .rtf word
processors like early wordstar. It worked on my 286 no problem.
I would be interested in the newest version only if it has this
problem fixed. First there was .txt which saved w/out formats and
was compatible with all word processors, and then .rtf came out
which saved things with formatting and was compatible with all
word processors. I quit using anything else in the mid '90s.
I've never had anyone have difficulty reading my stuff until I
tried to use OO. I love open office except for this one issue.

Also, I am on dial up. Is there a way that I can just download the
word processor w/out the rest of the package? I've never used any
of the other programs in the suite.
