I am running Open Office 2.0 and am using Writer.
I have tried to find a way to turn off the numbering and bullet
formatting for an entire document when beginning the document
creation (I don't want it active at all throughout the document).
The way the program appears to be set up is for numbering and
bulleting to be on continuously. I can type the information in and
let the program format it and then go back, highlight it and then
click remove from the bullet and formatting menu, but this only works
for one paragraph.
I am a instructor and I use this to create tests. Having to do it
this way for a 50 or 100 question exam means I have to do this action
50 to 100 times since each question is considered a paragraph by the
program. That is a lot of time wasted.
I like my own formatting scheme and would rather not have the program
second guess me as to what I want and automatically do something I
don't want. I am interested in a way to turn the bulleting and
numbering off completely for the entire document when I start so that
I don't have to go back and do it for each question I type. If you
can tell me how to do this (I have looked at the help screens and
tried to find it but this does not appear to be an option.) I would
be grateful. This is the only major problem I have had with your
product (other than minor difficulties trying to print brochures that
worked perfectly with MS Office) and I have the same problem with
bullets and numbering with MS Office when using it. Only WordPerfect
seems to understand and defaults to no formatting unless you turn it
on. That is the way it should be and that is what I want to do here.
If this is not a capability of the program at this time, would you
please put this on your list of changes and enhancements for the next
revision? It is easy enough when you are setting up a document to
activate this feature if you want it. Otherwise having it default to
off would be very helpful.
Thank you.
Jimmy
Hello,
If I understand your problem correctly, you start the paragraph with a
number, - or * and automatically OOo creates a bulleted/numbered list.
You can avoid it un-ticking the corresponding box in Tools >
Autocorrect options tab "Apply numbering - symbol : * in the [T]
column. This should do the trick.
Cheers,
Michele
