The only conflict is which program you will choose to open MS Office files when you double click on the those files.
During the installation process for OpenOffice.org (OOo), you will be asked whether you want to automatically open such files with MS Office or OpenOffice.org. It will leave them with their Microsoft default unless you tell the installation wizard otherwise. Your choice will depend on how often you will use each program. I stopped using MS Office when I installed OOo, so I preferred this program for opening my MS Office files.
