You need to do one of four things
1. Use File>Save As to save the document in MS Word format and then
send that
2. Use File>Send As MS Word document
3. Use File>Export PDF to save the document in PDF format and then
send that
4. Use File Send As PDF
In #2 and #4 you don't save the non-OO format document on your system
so you only have the OO-format document saved
Using PDF has the advantage that people who don't have OpenOffice or
MS Office will be able to read it; it has the disadvantage that the
recipients will not be able to change the document unless they have
Adobe's rather expensive PDF editor software.
