How did you attempt to change the file to .doc? Did you use Save
As and select Microsoft Word (.doc) as the File type? Did you make
sure the file extension box at the bottom of the Save As window is
checked?
OpenOffice.org 1.0.1 is a couple of years old. The present
version is 2.2.0. It is available for download at
http://download.openoffice.org/2.2.0/. You will be surprised at how
many changes and improvements have been made since 1.0.1.
