Well, OpenOffice is certainly better than MS Office. ;-)
Actually, the answer to that depends on your needs. If you only have to
prepare documents for your instructors, then yes it's fine, unless
they're *REALLY* fussy.
I am studying for an online degree as well. I have never had a problem
with using open office. I do save the documents in the microsoft format.
You will lose some editing.
