As Kirill said:

You cannot open a .mdb file in Word or Excel, nor can you open one in
Writer or Calc.

Once you've opened the MDB file, you can then select any of the tables,
right click & open. You can then edit any of the data just as you would
in MS Access. To move the data to a Calc sheet, or Writer doc, simply
right click on the table, select copy, then past into Calc or Writer.

If you have linux, I highly recommend installing MDB Viewer:
http://mdbtools.sourceforge.net/
It's about 1000 times faster and will also show what reports, forms &
macros are in the database (you can't export or view those as you can
the tables) - you can then export the tables to a proper csv and then
open w/Calc, Writer, Base etc., and the _all fonts_ will even be correct
in the resulting csv.
