Intel Mac, OSX 10.4.8, OOo 2.2 (X11) and NeoOffice (2.1 equivalent), although I don't think it matters.
Some documents, that I currently use FrameMaker for, are laid out thus: - Landscape (US letter) - Header stretches across the page, containing a menu (hyperlinks) - Text is in a 5.25-inch column on the right - Large graphics are in a 4.5-inch column on the left FrameMaker has a "sidehead" feature that makes such a setup fairly simple: specify a 4.5-inch sidehead with a 0.25 inch gap between itself and the text flow (leaving 0.5 inch left and right margins). Unfortunately, the Mac version of Frame is dead and it won't run on Intel Macs, so I'm looking for a replacement. I've checked the FAQ and archives; there were some similar requests but none that addressed my need. This is what I've considered for possible workarounds: 1) Set up a borderless table with the same measurements -- Graphics placed in the left column don't flow with the text in the right column. Seeing as some of the books in this format run over 50 pages, it would be a pain to fix the pagination manually. It would also clash with master documents. 2) Use a 4.75-inch margin in the page settings -- OOo doesn't allow setting negative margins for headers & footers. 3) Use a page-anchored frame -- This *almost* works... if there was a way to put it in the page style definition, I'd make the rest of it work. 4) Make the default indent 5.25 inches -- I'd prefer not to do this, since I'd need a duplicate set of styles (without indent) for tables. But if that's the only choice I have.... Well, our old FrameMaker templates worked this way before they added the sidehead feature. Any other suggestions would be appreciated. -- Larry --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
