I think that most of us would agree that Writer is not a high-powered html editor. It's intended for simple jobs. If you want a good open source html editor, download nVu. It even has built in FTP. Have you considered that maybe your html document is not following current standards and Writer is correcting formatting errors that would have made you page incompatible with some browsers?
