I'm not sure about the fonts issues, but you could also have a look at Tools- 
> Options -> Openoffice.org -> Compatability to see if both applicaitons have 
the same settings used.

Also verify if the problem exists with a version of OOo downloaded from 
http://openoffice.org as some distributions add some "fixes" which may make 
if behave ever so slightly different.
