Could you be more specific as to how your daughter save the  
presentation in the PowerPoint format? (i.e., step by  step)

Dan,
 
After creating her project, she went into "save as" and selected   "save as 
type" as " Microsoft PowerPoint 97/2000/XP (.ppt)".  She saved the  project in 
"CD burning" and burned the readwrite cd
