Have you tried to use Windows Explorer or My Computer's Open With function?

Dang it, I should have mentioned... I am a seasoned windows admin, and yes, this is the FIRST thing I tried...

It did not work - the file opened, of course, but the association does not stick.

One problem with this method, however, is that it won't work properly for TEMPLATES. When you try to associate the template extension, it simply OPENS the template file DIRECTLY, rather than opening it as a template file (ie, opening a new, blank document, then copying the contents of the template into the new/blank document)...

Anyway, I'm about at my wits end...

Again:

Does anyone know the proper command-line argument for re-registering the file-types?

This is very frustrating, and just illustrates how badly [the windows version of] OOo needs to have a file associations manager built in:

When OOo is installed, if the installer chooses to allow OOo to take over the file associations for Word, Excel and Powerpoint files, it should record the *current* file associations, so that this process can be reversed if the installer desires...

It would also be very nice if these file associations could be set on a per-user basis (don't know if that is even possible in Windows though).
