Hello,
I'm interested in writing Chinese traditional characters on my
computer, and I understand it is possible with OpenOffice. I'm looking
for some advice as to how to set up the extra language, and how to
actually type it using PinYin (the Romanized Chinese alphabet). I'd
appreciate any help. Thank you!

The question is actually not related to Open Office, but the input method of
your OS. If you can write Chinese characters in some simple text program
such as notepad (of any OS), there should be no problem in Open Office.
