1) You didn't have to purchase OpenOffice, as it's a free download from
www.openoffice.org.
2) Yes, you can use a memory stick or any other means to transfer files
between computers.  Make sure you save the files in .DOC format, so that
Word can read them.
3) You can even get a version of OpenOffice that you install on a memory
stick, so that you can use it on any Windows computer, that's capable of
running OpenOffice.  That version, along with several other apps, is
available from portableapps.com.
