I helped a friend download and install Open Office. She uses Vista
operating system. After it finished installing there were file cabinet
icons on her desktop. I use Windows XP Home Edition and I do not have file
cabinets on my desk top. Why are they there on Vista and not XP and is it
okay to delete the icons on the Vista desktop?

More of a question for Microsoft really. Unsure what 'file cabinet' icons
are - but I'm guessing that these are simply short cuts to locations where
you unzipped the OOo install file that you downloaded... When you double
click on the icon do you get a list of file shown to you?

If this is the case then you can delete the icon and associated files since
the installed files are not accessed in that way.

Reply to the list if you have any more queries...
