The problem is now solved, thanks for your interest.

I was getting a "select all" window that would not go away or allow me to open 
the program once I installed it.

The cause was not your end but my end.

It was a silly thing as you will see.

I have an advanced Logitech keyboard and mouse that works through Bluetooth.

I noticed on a total re-install that the Microsoft drivers drove both items so 
thought I would avoid any potential conflictions by using the Microsoft drivers 
instead of the Logitech drivers.

This, in turn, caused a number of problems including the one with Open Office.

Once I loaded up the Logitech drivers, all these problems went away.

Hi Andres,
 Can you please explain the exact steps you are taking in trying to start the 
openoffice.org applications and tell us the exact error message you get.
