The problem is now solved, thanks for your interest. I was getting a "select all" window that would not go away or allow me to open the program once I installed it.
The cause was not your end but my end. It was a silly thing as you will see. I have an advanced Logitech keyboard and mouse that works through Bluetooth. I noticed on a total re-install that the Microsoft drivers drove both items so thought I would avoid any potential conflictions by using the Microsoft drivers instead of the Logitech drivers. This, in turn, caused a number of problems including the one with Open Office. Once I loaded up the Logitech drivers, all these problems went away.
